About Us

The residents of Helston elect twelve councillors every four years to serve on the Town Council. The town is divided into three Wards with the North Ward returning six Members, the East Ward four Members and the West Ward two Members. These councillors serve the community in their own time and with no remuneration. At the Annual Meeting each May the Council elects the Town Mayor for the civic year.

The elected Members also represent the Council on a number of outside committees such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, Victim Support Cornwall and Helston & District Youth Club Management Committee to name a few.

The Council employs a full time Town Clerk who is responsible for the financial management of the council budget and advises the councillors at meetings. He is assisted by two administrative officers, one full time and one part time. The Council also employs a Town Warden who is responsible for maintaining a clean, green and safe environment for our residents and visitors. Two part time caretakers ensure the Guildhall is kept clean.

Helston Town Council obtained Quality Town Council status in January 2006.
